Using Modius

Yes, the headset is not locked to one individual but it is limited to 1 hour per day.

No, as it activates the vestibular nerve which is responsible for balance, we recommend you enjoy your Modius session whilst seated or lying down.

Yes, the gel pads for the Modius headset must be applied behind your ears. This is the only place the device has been specifically tested, and the only place it will produce the desired effect of stimulating your vestibular nerve. You must never apply it anywhere else on the body, particularly on the head or chest.

Once your skin is clean and dry after using one of our supplied wipes, you are ready to stick your pads in place.

You should place the pads in a hair free area along the mastoid bone behind your ear.

In the even your Modius needs a reset, here are the steps to take:

  1. Plug your Modius into a power source.
  2. Hold the power button down on your device for 10 seconds – it will beep once after the 10 seconds, followed by a pause, then three more beeps when you’ve done this correctly.
  3. Remove Modius as a paired device from your phone.
  4. Re-pair your Modius to your phone.

At this point, you should be able to use your device again.

If your Modius has a flashing amber light, these steps will help get it sorted out again:

  1. Connect to a charger – preferably a laptop (no dash/fast chargers). Allow 10 seconds. Amber light should be flashing
  2. Hold down power button. You will hear the power-on beep. Don’t let go of the power button – keep it pressed throughout this process
  3. Disconnect USB charge cable. Keep that power button pressed
  4. Reconnect USB charge cable
  5. Release power button. Amber light should now be solid. Continue to charge

Due to the gentle, rocking sensation that vestibular stimulation produces for many people, Modius should not be worn during physical activity as safety concerns could arise. In particular, it must never be used when driving a car or bike or operating heavy machinery.

In general, we suggest using Modius in the evening, while sitting or lying down, and just before sleep.

In the future, we would like to add this functionality to the app. At present, however, each headset can be used for a maximum of one hour a day.

The headset has been in development for over five years. It all began with Dr Paul McGeoch’s observation that electrical stimulation of the brain could help people struggling with weight loss. He shared his findings with his colleague and friend, Dr Jason McKeown, who had been drawn to the field of Neurosurgery in part due to his fascination with technology and electronics. No. The FDA and MHRA consider Modius to be a general wellness device. This means you can buy a headset without the need for a prescription, but the agencies have not reviewed the product for safety or effectiveness. We recommend that you consult with your doctor or health care professional before using the device.

Although Modius is a new device, the technology behind it is well established. Unlike some devices, Modius does not directly activate the brain but rather stimulates the balance nerve that runs in the bone of the skull behind the ear. While these devices have many things in common, the properties of the electrical pulses that Modius delivers are very different from that of a TENS. We would in no way recommend using a TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) device for vestibular nerve stimulation.

Members should refrain from using the Modius equipment or following health and lifestyle suggestions if he or she suspects that this is associated with a risk to their health. Each member is responsible for requesting prior medical advice or prior consultation with professional trainers or other supervisory or medical personnel as necessary; consultation or advice is not part of the scope of the Community services.

Members should also be aware that information shared by other members of the Community as to health, lifestyle and fitness does not constitute medical advice from Modius and such information remains the opinion of the person providing it (who may or may not be medically qualified to do so). Modius Life shall have no responsibility for any loss, injury or damage to the health of members in following the advice of other members of the Community.


Members acknowledge and agree that we do not monitor or moderate any content of the Community and that we shall not be liable for or in relation to such content (including inappropriate, false or misleading posted by members). In the case of criminal offences Modius Life reserves the right to pass on data about the member to the competent authorities within the framework of the law.

Members agree that, by submitting any content, they grant us and our affiliates a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free and fully sub-licensable right and licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such content (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media or technology, and members waive any moral rights they may have in, or to be identified as the author, of such content.

  14. Discussion of illegal activities (in the EU and USA).
  15. Discussion of or references to illegal, banned, or controlled substances (in the EU and USA). This includes but is not limited to: steroids, banned substances, pro-hormones, illegal drugs, and prescription drugs.
  16. Collection of money for individual causes. Donation and charity causes must be approved by an administrator.
  17. Raids of other sites or sections of the Community.

  23. Attempting to circumvent forum rules or censors, or assisting or encouraging others to do so (includes bumping and posting in violating threads).
  24. Publishing or disseminating data without the consent of those included and concerned;
  25. Screenshotting and/or sharing member’s posts and content outside of the Community, including posting them on social media platforms;
  26. Promotion of unsafe weight-loss techniques or eating disorders;
  27. Supplying access codes or passwords or even the use of other people’s access codes or passwords, in particular in order to procure unauthorised fee-based services for oneself or third parties;
  28. Any commercial use of the Modius Life range of services not expressly authorised by Modius Life, in particular making it available in return for a fee or using it for purposes of advertising one’s own or third-party services;
  29. Interference with the way the range of services offered by Modius Life function (e.g. manipulation, abuse of the 90 day money back guarantee, introduction of computer viruses, sending spam or junk mail, circumventing technical restrictions and security);
  30. Copying, reverse engineering, “ripping” or mimicking the range of services in full or in part, investigating or analysing its technical functioning (including disassembling).

Sanction for breach of the rules:

Violation of any of these rules or the Terms and Conditions are subject to corrective action, up to and including permanent removal from the Community. The administrator reserves the right to suspend an account for a period it considers appropriate and/or withdraw a Member’s access following a breach of these rules.
