Neurovalens is an independent Careable Technology company focusing on using neuroscience
to improve people’s lives. It was founded by neuroscientist Dr Jason McKeown in 2013.

Dr Jason McKeown MD
Jason earned his medical degree from Queen’s University, Belfast in Northern Ireland. He is the youngest ever visiting scholar to be invited to study neuroscience and neuromodulation under Professor Ramachandran.
He successfully led Neurovalens through the InvestNI ‘Propel Programme’ where they were awarded Company of the Year 2015. Jason enjoys electronics and technology and is very proactive in the health & fitness community.
Niall is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 24 years of leadership and senior roles in Financial Services, Corporate Finance and Accountancy.
Most recently Niall was Founder and CEO of a financial services start up, responsible for establishing the strategy, financial and operational platforms necessary to secure a new lending licence from the Financial Conduct Authority in London. Niall also previously held senior roles with Barclays and PwC. In his free time Niall enjoys golf, skiing and planning his next travel adventure.
Chris is responsible for all things software related from our mobile apps to our cloud servers. He has been a code enthusiast since an early age and has been developing software for the better part of 15 years. Chris graduated top of his class and was awarded the HP Autonomy Prize and the Dell High-Performance Computing prize.
Prior to joining the Modius team he was CTO at AuditComply and has been involved in several startups over the past few years. When he’s not working, Chris enjoys both playing and making video games
Iain is the Head of Engineering, he is responsible for developing Modius devices including firmware and electronic design – the keystone of our innovative, leading-edge product.
He has a background in sustainable energy, telecommunications and automotive systems. In his spare time, Iain enjoys all types of cycling along with live music and is known to play the electric guitar on occasion.
Olivia is Head of Modius Life which is a 24/7 exclusive community for customers who already have their Modius headset. She is responsible for creating an inspiring and encouraging platform along with her motivating team of Mentors and Coaches. Olivia obtained her Marketing and Business degree from Newcastle University before embarking on a successful Marketing career in London and Belfast. In her free time Olivia loves to keep fit and travel the world.
Veronika is the Head of Strategy and Analytics. She is responsible for analysing app data, identifying trends, and devising marketing plans. Veronika graduated with distinction from Cass Business School with MSc in Management and, having worked for Google, LinkedIn, and most recently as the Commercial manager of Deliveroo, her experience in marketing is extensive. In her spare time, Veronika enjoys kitesurfing, wakeboarding and ski mountaineering.
Ian graduated from Queen’s University with a PhD and subsequently worked for JP Morgan in London and New York, where he specialised in Corporate Finance.
He joined PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) where he was the Partner in charge of Corporate Finance for N.Ireland.
In 2003 he co-founded Beltrae Partners Ltd, an all-Ireland corporate finance and private equity boutique, with offices in Dublin and Belfast.
Ian has acted as Chairman for a range of companies including another medical sector spin-out company, PathXL Ltd, which was venture capital backed and successfully sold onto Philips Healthcare.
Jamie Andrews trained as a Chartered Accountant and spent 6 years with KPMG London and Sydney.
He was previously Financial Controller of BSkyB New Media. After working on the £1.5 billion acquisition of an Interactive TV platform by BSkyB in 2001, he joined Lagan Technologies as CFO, where he helped the company grow from £0.5m to over £15m in revenues.
He then moved to San Francisco to join RainStor, a VC-backed big data Company as COO. Jamie has significant operational and commercial experience within VC-backed businesses; as CFO or COO he has helped raise over $50m of funding for early stage companies.
Stephen McClelland MBE
Business Advisor to Neurovalens, Stephen has spent 30 years in the electronics industry including many years leading a global business.
In 2014, he orchestrated a successful exit at a value of $1 Billion.
Stephen is currently advising Neurovalens on product development, manufacturing and building our engineering team.
He currently acts as a Private Equity and Angel investor and has invested in numerous startups including Neurovalens.
Dr Peter Cuthbert
Peter is an Emergency Medicine doctor working in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Birmingham, England.
He is also a qualified biomedical scientist having attained a first class honours degree from University College Cork, Ireland.
He is a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and has a keen interest in trauma and pre-hospital medicine.
Imran has been a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Western General Hospital, since 2013 and is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer within the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.
He is also the lead clinician for adult brain tumours. He has published in the fields of Neurotrauma and Neuro-oncology. In 2013, Imran obtained a Master`s in Surgical Education with Merit (MEd) from Imperial College London and was elected to the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh recently.

DR V.S. Ramachandran
V.S. Ramachandran is Director of the Center for Brain and Cognition and Distinguished Professor with the Psychology Department and Neurosciences Program at the University of California, San Diego. Amongst numerous honours, in 1995 Rama gave the Decade of the Brain lecture for the Society for Neuroscience, and in 2003 he was the annual BBC Reith lecturer.
In 2011 he was named by TIME magazine in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Ramachandran has published more than 180 papers in scientific journals and is author of the acclaimed and best-selling books “Phantoms in the Brain” and “The Tell-Tale Brain”.
Dr Paul McGeoch MD
Paul is a trained neurosurgeon and proposed the idea of using vestibular stimulation to modulate body mass composition while doing a post-doctoral fellowship in brain science at the University of California in 2010.
He has a medical degree and research doctorate from the University of Aberdeen, has authored about 20 peer-reviewed papers on neuroscience, is a Member of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. In his free time, Paul enjoys skiing, sailing and writing about the brain.
Tom Bilyeu is the co-founder of 2014 Inc. 500 company Quest Nutrition — a unicorn startup valued at over $1 billion — and the cofounder and host of Impact Theory.
Tom’s mission is the creation of empowering media-based IP and the acceleration of mission-based businesses.
Personally, driven to help people develop the skills they will need to improve themselves and the world, Tom is intent to use commerce to address the dual pandemics of physical and mental malnourishment. He is currently on the Innovation Board of the XPRIZE Foundation.
In 2012 Mark co-founded Trov—the world’s
first on-demand insurance platform—and today
is accountable for all revenue, strategy and growth as the company expand internationally.
Mark was an LP in Bullet Time Ventures, an early seed investor in Uber, Twilio and many more emerging tech start-ups. An accomplished endurance runner and cyclist, a serial investor and startup founder. In two decades, he has helped get dozens of ventures off the ground, through his Canadian-based incubators Fresh Initiatives and Creationstep.
